Asteroid Day is Asteroid Foundation’s dynamic awareness and educational programme to inspire the world about asteroids – how we can use their resources, how asteroids can pave the way for future exploration and finally how we can protect our planet from asteroid impacts.
The UN-sanctioned global awareness campaign is observed annually on 30 June to mark the date of the Siberia Tunguska event, Earth’s largest recorded asteroid impact. Asteroid Day was co-founded by astrophysicist and Queen guitarist Dr Brian May, Apollo 9 astronaut Rusty Schweickart, filmmaker Grig Richters, and B612 Foundation President Danica Remy.
Asteroid Foundation runs global Asteroid Day programmes, manages local programmes such as the Asteroid Day Gala and Technical briefings in Luxembourg.
waveL have been working on Asteroid Day since Markus was appointed Board Chair of the Asteroid Foundation in March, 2020. Through his leadership, the foundation has risen in profile and scope, securing funding from the Luxembourg Space Agency which has shaped the foundation’s strategic vision, expanding its image through public relations and outreach campaigns on a pro bono basis.

“waveL takes great pride in supporting Asteroid Day, helping drive its mission of education and inspiration in asteroids and more widely space. The outreach and public relations campaigns we craft and execute for Asteroid Day ensure that the globe continues to recognise the value of space, the importance of space resources and their exploration and the role that astronauts, engineers and scientists play as ambassadors, inspirators, and pathfinders.”
